Global One Urban Farming is a 501 (c) (3) non-profit charitable organization that produces and distributes free organic vegetables to seniors, veterans, and low-income families in USDA-defined food-insecure and food desert areas. We also teach sustainable gardening skills and the greenhouse process of growing fruits and vegetables to residents in the urban core of Kansas City, Missouri, and surrounding Communities to help with low life expectancy in the focus area of 64128 and 64130 zip codes. Anthony said in February 2009, "I am going to put you a garden in when we move," and asked the landlord if we could tear up the back yard which extended to the front yard then to the elderly next door neighbor's yard then to the church. Was buying plants from Fred and Helen Mersner and they invited us to their 20 acre farm to learn the germination process. We accepted the invite and have been in training since.
The accountant advised us since we give away food to start a nonprofit. Hired a paralegal to help with the paperwork. Started at African Center College Preparatory Academy George Washington Carver greenhouse teaching pre-k through 5th grade gardening skills and was there from 2013 through 2018. Ewing Marion Kaufman school has been our partner since 2017 since we started teaching the gardening club there to middle schoolers. KIPP KC Legacy High School program lasted August 2022-February 2023 teaching Real world learning and business and Agricultural studies.
We are interested in any apprentice over the age of 15 that wants to learn agriculture and does not mind the outdoors. We grow a large variety of healing herbs, fruits and vegetables. We operate a farmers market and we schedule to table at vendor’s markets throughout the year.
