The Splitlog Farm is a small, unique urban farm near downtown Kansas City, Kansas. Established in 2014, by the Community Housing Authority of Wyandotte County, this space was created to support community building and engagement goals. In 2018 a partnership was formed with KC Healthy Kids to operate the farm and increase harvest totals, which are distributed to the neighborhood through a CSA program and community distribution to schools and early education centers.
Apprentices can expect to work with a wide variety of perennial fruit trees/shrubs, native edibles and asparagus. There are also annual raised beds and ground beds where seasonal vegetables are grown. Splitlog Farm has a hoop house where greens, lettuce and herbs are grown in a NFT system and tomatoes in an undercurrent hydroponic system. We are not certified organic, but we use organic and sustainable practices.
Our Thursday CSA is a great opportunity for apprentices to practice all of the steps of running a CSA for a farm.
