Westport Commons farm *Inactive for 2024 season.*
Located on 39th Street between Main Street and Gillham Road, Westport Commons Farm places Cultivate Kansas City in the crossroads of diverse communities that are hungry for good food. The 1.25-acre farm aims to be a beautiful, organic urban farm that creates a place for neighborhood residents and businesses to connect with their food and with each other. Westport Commons Farm demonstrates the social, economic and environmental value of urban agriculture to a vital and thriving community. Currently, we sell produce at a weekly farmstand and through KC Food Hub, make regular donations to Don Bosco Senior Center, collect food scraps for compost, and host school tours and community volunteers.
As a Cultivate KC team member, you will learn how to:
Prepare and manage beds for diverse vegetable growing
Use a high tunnel to extend the season and manage moisture
Harvest, pack and distribute produce to buyers and donation recipients
Work with community volunteers
Collaborate in a small team atmosphere
Operate small farm tools and machinery
You will also have the opportunity to:
Manage bees on the farm
Develop relationships with community members
Work though industry topics and policy with Cultivate staff
Farm Manager Emily and Program Manager Paul will work closely with you to help you reach your goals in the Growing Growers program. If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to reach out to [email protected] or [email protected]
